Four temperaments is a proto-psychological interpretation of the Unani Medical concept of HUMORISM and suggest that four bodily fluids affect human personality traits and behaviors.

SANGUINE (BLOOD as the dominant humor and characteristic of a person is... pleasure-seeking and sociable)

CHOLERIC (YELLOW BILE as the dominant humor and characteristic of a person is... easily angered, bad-tempered, ambitious and leader-like)

MELANCHOLIC (BLACK BILE as the dominant humor and characteristic of a person is... emotional state characterized by sullenness and outbreaks of violent anger and introverted and thoughtful)

PHLEGMATIC (PHLEGM as the dominant humor and characteristic of a person is... calm, sluggish temperament; unemotional, relaxed and quiet)
